The Zero Emission Microgrid Energy Initiative (ZEM ENERGY) is a private sector effort to provide rural elctrification by combining Solar PV, Microgrids and advanced Electric Vehicle batteries.

New battery technology developed for the EV, - the Lithium Ion batteries now being produced in growing quantities for automotive use, will make better and long- lasting batteries available also for solar and wind energy storage, at the same time, the prices for photovoltaic solar panels have been falling dramatically, making the combination or large PV panel arrays with high quality EV batteries and Microgrids very cost effective and opening a unique opportunity to revolutionize the rural sustainable energy access.
